Mini-Beam is a compact X-ray generator that integrates a polycapillary X-ray optic with a low-powered X-ray source to produce either a focused, micron-sized X-ray beam or a large parallel X-ray beam for a variety of applications across many industries. The technology was originally developed for the JPL NASA science team to carry out the feasibility study of the micro-XRF system (Planetary Instrument for X-ray Lithochemistry, or PIXL) on the Perseverance Mars Rover. Mini-Beam has been carefully engineered for performance, reliability, and ease of use, making it an additional choice amongst the other X-ray optics and subsystems that XOS already offers.
Features and Benefits
• Mini-Beam’s intensity is up to 1,000 times greater than conventional pinhole collimators
• Focal spot as small as 5µm @ Rh Ka (20.16keV)
• Integrated removable filter for simple filter material swapping
• Compact geometry for applications with limited space or portability requirements
• User friendly fine optic alignment mechanism and simplistic mount for optic and/or source swapping
Simple Integration and Easy Serviceability
• Mini-Beam seamlessly integrates into various systems and features USB connectivity.
• Innovative design allows for the ability to interchange different optics, as well as service the X-ray source in the field.
